Twitter permanently banned Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe for violating its “platform manipulation and spam policy” on Thursday, April 15.
The move comes after the social network suspended Project Veritas two months earlier for breaching its private information policy. O’Keefe’s account was still briefly locked at the time, but it was later restored.
Project Veritas has become well-known for conducting hidden camera stings on media outlets and left-wing organizations. It is often accused of sharing deceptive videos and spreading stories out of context.
A Twitter spokesperson told Fox News that James O’Keefe could not deceive others on Twitter by running fake accounts. He can not artificially escalate or interrupt conversations by using multiple accounts according to the company’s network abuse and spam policy.
In a series of bombshell leaks, O’Keefe has repeatedly released exclusive video footage exposing the political bias of CNN, Facebook, and Google, among others.
A Veritas video brought CNN to light as CNN’s technical director, Charlie Chester, was captured in a secret video speaking in-depth about how the network promotes its political goals in favor of the left. Chester said: “Look what we did, we [CNN] got Trump out. I am 100 percent going to say it, and I 100 percent believe that if it wasn’t for CNN, I don’t know that Trump would have got voted out…I came to because I wanted to be a part of that.”
Chester suggested in the video that CNN’s “focus” during the 2020 election campaign was to “get rid of” President Trump, that the network marketed its coronavirus coverage for “gangbuster” ratings, and that the network aimed to “support” Black Lives Matter.
In response to Twitter’s decision, Project Veritas’s chief legal officer Jered T. Ede told TechCrunch said that O’Keefe has just one account and has not created any fictitious accounts. Ede said that the claim made by Twitter is clearly untrue.
Journalist Andy Ngo wrote: “After the latest round of hidden camera videos embarrassing to CNN was released, @JamesOKeefeIII has been permanently banned from Twitter. The @Project_Veritas account was also recently banned. This is how big tech works with liberal corporate media to take down challengers.”
Lila Rose, the president of Live Action, called out Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.” Twitter has just suspended @JamesOKeefeIII.. He violated no policy. But his reporting exposed @CNN bias, and their friends at Twitter apparently couldn’t stand for that. What happened to give “everyone the power to create and share ideas and information instantly,’ @jack?”
Recalling Twitter’s suspension of the pro-Trump meme creator, Daily Caller social media associate Greg Price wrote: “Twitter banned Carpe Donktum right after his viral parody of CNN with the babies, and they banned James O’Keefe after he released videos of a CNN employee that embarrassed the company.”
In a statement to Forbes, O’Keefe denied ever operating fake accounts and said he plans to sue Twitter for defamation next week.
