The tax reforms by President Donald Trump are bearing fruit for many Americans.
“There has never been a better time to start living the American Dream,” the president said in a fact sheet from the White House on Monday.
President Trump was quoted in the fact sheets as saying, “It is the biggest tax cut and reform in American history. And at the heart of our plan is tremendous relief for working families and for small businesses.” He also said, “In everything we do and every action we take, we’re putting America first, and we are putting American workers first, for the first time in a long time.”
President Trump’s tax reform benefits most American taxpayers. It is estimated by the Tax Policy Center that 65 percent of taxpayers paid less under the law and that only 6 percent paid more.
The fact, which serves as an answer to critics that the tax reform was designed for the wealthy, was reported positively by CNN and The New York Times.
According to the Washington Examiner, “Christine Romans, a CNN correspondent and co-host of ‘Early Start’ on Monday morning cited a Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation report saying the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, has cut taxes for 65 percent of Americans this year.”
“Studies consistently find that the 2017 law cut taxes for most Americans,” The New York Times reported on Sunday. “Ever since President Trump signed the Republican-sponsored tax bill in December 2017, independent analyses have consistently found that a large majority of Americans would owe less because of the law.”
The The Times article surprised President Trump, who often describes the news agency as fake news.
“I have an article here from one of the newspapers … the very fake New York Times,” the president said in a roundtable discussion in Minnesota on Monday, according to Breitbart. He joked as the audience laughed: “And they must have made a mistake, I’m sure these writers will be fired very shortly.”
“I didn’t read the rest of the article. frankly. I read the headline … you don’t want to delve too much into the New York Times, because nothing good comes from the New York Times,” President Trump continued as the audience applauded.
Many Americans do not know they have benefitted from the president’s tax reforms. Only 40 percent of surveyed Americans believed that they had a tax cut under the law, according to an online research for The New York Times conducted by SurveyMonkey.
