The Trump administration official responsible for designing a peace plan between Israel and the Palestinians is leaving the White House.

Jason Greenblatt, assistant to the president and special representative for international negotiations and special envoy for Middle East peace will leave his position in the coming weeks, the White House said on Thursday, Sept. 5.

President Donald Trump tweeted, “After almost 3 years in my Administration, Jason Greenblatt will be leaving to pursue work in the private sector. Jason has been a loyal and great friend and fantastic lawyer …”

A second tweet followed, “His dedication to Israel and to seeking peace between Israel and the Palestinians won’t be forgotten. He will be missed.” President Trump ends the tweet with, “Thank you Jason!”

At the United Nations Security Council meeting in New York on July 23, 2019, Greenblatt spoke about the situation with Jerusalem.

“There is no international consensus about Jerusalem,” said Greenblatt.

“No international consensus or interpretation of international law will persuade the United States or Israel that a city in which Jews have lived and worshipped for nearly 3,000 years and has been the capital of the Jewish State for 70 years, is not—today and forever —the capital of Israel,” said Greenblatt emphatically.

He was leading the peace plan endeavor and worked with White House senior adviser Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law, on the plan.

The White House said the peace plan is complete but will not be announced until after Israel’s Sept. 17 elections.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tweeted his thank you to Greenblatt.

Greenblatt supported the decision to relocate the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem. He recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights—all of which were decisions frowned upon by Palestinians and the Arab nations.

In addition to being the adviser and Middle East peace envoy, Greenblatt is also the executive vice president and chief legal officer to President Trump and The Trump Organization.
