Violent clashes between hundreds of Marxist Antifa and right-wing Proud Boys supporters caused chaos in Oregon, on Aug. 22.

The Proud Boys responded to Antifa’s improvised explosive device attacks with paintball gunfire and other weapons in the heavily vandalized city of Portland.

EHA News confirmed at least one man was arrested for opening fire on protesters.

“Members of far-left Antifa and far-right Proud Boys clashed following rival demonstrations in Oregon,” the media outlet said on Twitter. “At least one man was arrested for firing a gun at demonstrators.”

The Post Millennial editor-at-large Andy Ngo suspects a crashed white van belongs to Antifa members.

“[I am] not sure if there was a failed vehicular attack but a white van crashed near the right-wing rally in northeast Portland,” he said on Twitter. “It led to violent clashes in the street between Antifa and attendees of the patriotic-themed event.”

Violence broke out during what began as a peaceful gathering. The Proud Boys had decorated an 8 foot high Statue of Liberty replica with a giant American flag in remembrance of August 29 shooting victim and protester Aaron Danielson, 39.

The 2020 tragedy occurred after then-President Donald Trump’s rally in the City of Roses. Danielson’s friends will remember the victim as a “proud American and proud Portlander.”

Although police witnessed many clashes officers only occasionally intervened. investigators are still collecting evidence and statements about exactly how the violence unfolded.

“Just because arrests are not made at the scene, when tensions are high, does not mean that people are not being charged with crimes later,” the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) said in a statement.

Marxist groups Antifa and Black Lives Matter have vandalized Portland many times since Minnesotan George Floyd’s 2020 death in custody. Democrat leaders seized on police brutality allegations to lobby the city to defund the PPB.

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler (D) eventually conceded his policies to “combat” extreme left-wing organized crime had failed. The Democrat had slashed the PPB’s budget by $16 million in 2020, causing race-related crimes to soar. He then requested extra federal assistance to cope with the rising tide of violence from Antifa, Black Lives Matter, and other groups.

At least 20 homicides were reported in the first two months of 2021, compared to just one in the previous corresponding period.
