An Illinois man with mental health issues and a history of erratic behavior has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his mother.
On Monday, July 29, police found the body of 74-year-old Judith Krystyniak stuffed in a trash can inside the Park Ridge home she shared with 47-year-old David Krystyniak.
Park Ridge Police Chief Frank J. Kaminski said Wednesday a police officer patrolling near the Krystyniak home noticed debris on a driveway that seemed out of place. David Krystyniak was already known to officials because of his mental illness, according to Fox News.
An early attempt to contact the home’s residents was unsuccessful. The officer returned several hours later with a social worker and was invited inside by the son. Finding the home in disarray, they asked about his mother and were allowed to search the home.
Kaminski said the officer then noticed a garbage can in the living room with a bloody hand hanging from it.
Kaminski said the officer and social worker found Judith’s body inside with multiple stab wounds to her chest. Police then found a 2-foot sword in the house and arrested Krystynial. He later admitted to stabbing his mother, Kaminski said.
Krystyniak is being held without bond. It wasn’t immediately known if he has legal representation.
