A morning fire in a Pennsylvania day care center killed 5 children and sent the owner to the hospital, according to officials.

The fire was reported in Erie, a northwest lake town, at about 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11, Chief Guy Santone of the Erie Fire Department said.

Santone said the victims ranged in ages from 8 months to 7 years, AP reported.

Detectives are working to determine whether any of the victims were staying at the Harris Family Day Care, Erie Police Chief Dan Spizarny told the Erie Times-News.

Santone said the owner of the day care was flown to UPMC Mercy hospital for treatment. He said a neighbor was also injured in the fire.

The fire is believed to have started in the living room area on the first floor, Chief Fire Inspector John Widomski told the newspaper. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
