A Philadelphia man was killed after police said he had stolen a car inside which had two small children, According to FOXLA.

According to authorities, the incident happened outside of a pizza restaurant on Thursday, July 11th. The mother went inside where her boyfriend worked. She left the engine running inside the car with a 7-month-old, a 1-year-old, and a 5-year-old. Moments later, a man got into the car and drove away.

The couple was able to catch up to the 54-year-old carjacker after he got stuck in traffic.

Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said, “He fled on foot about a half a block”. And the boyfriend caught up to him and there was some sort of physical fight that followed.

Police revealed that other neighborhood men intervened then and began punching and kicking the male who took the car.

The suspected carjacker was discovered unconscious by medics with serious head injuries. He was taken to a hospital where he was reported to have died.

The Office of the District Attorney will decide if the father will be charged in the case. The beating was reportedly recorded on security video. Authorities are still looking for other men involved.
