After House Speaker Nancy Pelosi violated Capitol Hill security protocols in Washington D.C., some Republican lawmakers demanded that she pay the $5,000 fine she set for others.
“What was observed was a clear violation of House Resolution 73, and you are required by House Rules to impose this fine. Please inform us once the fine has been assessed,” requested witnesses to the infraction to Acting Sergeant at Arms Timothy Blodgett, according to Fox News Feb. 5.
Pelosi evaded going through the metal detector recently installed at the House entrance, a security measure rejected by several congressmen.
The detector is part of a series of restrictive measures imposed by Democrats after Pelosi said that “the enemy is inside” the House. She also called for increased funding for security.
“It means we have members of Congress who want to bring guns to the floor and who have threatened violence against other members of Congress,” Pelosi expanded.
However, the Department of Homeland Security did not cite specific threats in its bulletin, issued on Jan. 27. Still, it said that some “domestic violent extremists” may feel emboldened by the unrest on Capitol Hill, according to Reuters.
The procedure for Pelosi to be notified of the fine she enacted requires that Blodgett receive a report from the U.S. Capitol Police (USCP), which has not yet been issued.
Should the offense be repeated, the fine doubles to $10,000.
The heightened security standards would follow a White House order for a “comprehensive threat assessment” of alleged domestic violent extremism to be conducted by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security, according to White House press secretary Jen Psaki.
“The Jan. 6 assault on the Capitol and tragic deaths and destruction that occurred underscored what we have long known, the rise of violent domestic extremism is a serious and growing national security threat,” Psaki said according to ABC on Jan. 22.
Since Psaki only referred to the recent Jan. 6 riots, she could be alluding to the Republicans who gathered to accompany former President Donald Trump on that occasion as violent.
However, it is known that the Jan. 6 demonstration was infiltrated by members of the violent Marxist groups’ Black Lives Matter (BLM) and Antifa, who are accused of promoting the riots.
Pelosi has previously evaded regulations, as demonstrated by a security camera video that captured her in a hair salon without facial covering over her mouth or nose, despite the prohibition of frequenting hair salons in the area due to the Chinese Communist Party virus pandemic.
