House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Friday, May 29, slammed President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO), calling the move “an act of extraordinary senselessness.”
“The President’s withdrawal from @WHO as it leads the fight against COVID-19 [CCP Virus] is an act of extraordinary senselessness. Again and again, he blames others and refuses to take responsibility. Only with a coordinated global response will we defeat this virus,” Pelosi wrote on a tweet.

Pelosi’s comments came after President Trump announced that the United States is “terminating” its relationship with the WHO over concerns of its response to the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) handling of the CCP Virus (coronavirus).
Last week, the president sent a letter to WHO’s Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, outlining the agency pro-CCP bias and asking the organization to “commit to major substantive improvements within the next 30 days.”

“Because they have failed to make the requested and greatly needed reforms, we will be today terminating our relationship with the World Health Organization and redirecting those funds to other worldwide and deserving urgent global public health needs,” President Trump told reporters on Friday.
The move followed a decision in mid-April to suspend funding to the WHO and threaten to make the freeze permanent if it failed to enact reforms. The organization has been under scrutiny after Ghebreyesus and other WHO officials praised the CCP’s “transparency” for its handling of the pandemic and ignored warnings about the virus from Taiwan.
President Trump has also pointed to the WHO parroting CCP claims that virus could not be transmitted between humans and Ghebreyesus’s opposition to the president’s decision to place a travel ban on China in the initial day of the crisis.
“Chinese officials ignored their reporting obligations to the World Health Organization and pressured the World Health Organization to mislead the world when the virus was first discovered by Chinese authorities,” the president said. “Countless lives have been taken and profound economic hardship has been inflicted across the globe.”
