An Ohio mother who accidentally shot her teenage daughter will not face charges.

It happened at a home in Girard on Aug. 30 when Hannah Jones, an 18-year-old college student, came home on a recent unexpected visit to surprise her mom.

Instead, she terrified her mom, Renee Jones, who has a concealed weapon carrying permit, police said. Renee Jones was in her bedroom and heard a commotion downstairs. She assumed Hannah was an intruder.

Renee fired one round at the doorway when her daughter burst into the room to surprise her.

Hannah’s boyfriend heard the screams and raced in to call 911. He said that she was bleeding “pretty bad,” according to the call obtained by WFMJ.

Hannah suffered a gunshot wound to her right elbow and was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Girard City Prosecutor Michael Scala said his office declined to file charges against the mother.
