A police officer and a suspect are in critical condition following an officer-involved shooting in Ponderosa Place, Colorado.

The incident happened at about 10:40 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 2, after officers with the Fort Lupton Police Department responded to a call about a man armed with a gun, KMGH reported.

The armed man had been trying to contact somebody inside a home, according to a press release from the 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT).

When police approached the home in question, the suspect started to shoot at them. And the other officers returned fire, injuring the suspect.

One officer with the police department was shot, according to CIRT.

The officer and suspect were transported to a hospital, where they listed in critical condition.

CIRT is investigating the shooting.
