According to authorities, a police officer hit a 12-year-old girl during a chase in St. Louis on Monday night, Oct. 14.

At a gas station, the St. Louis County officer saw a suspicious person and vehicle.

The 25-year-old officer was trying to get in touch with the suspect.

This car was not registered with the license plate on the vehicle.

Police said the individual was driving off and wasn’t going to stop, so the officer was chasing the vehicle.

The officer had not triggered his siren or lights, according to reports.

A girl ran into the street before the officer approached the perpetrator and was struck by the police car.

When she was hit, the girl walked home from a shopping center.

“The car hit her, and she flew in the air and came back down,” a witness told KMOV.

Police said during the chase, the officer was driving 29 mph above the speed limit at times, which lasted 32 seconds.

The girl was listed at a local hospital in critical condition.

Police said the officer was stopped and the incident was reported. He is cooperating with the investigation.
