The NYPD said it was investigating at least six separate shootings in New York City in less than two hours, with 17 people shot, one severely.
The shootings occurred between 10:55 p.m. on Sunday and 12:45 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 16. The occurrences spanned the boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn, Fox News reported.
Eight people, ages 18 to 27, were among a group of 100 people listening to music at a playground at the Eleanor Roosevelt Houses on DeKalb Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant when two assailants shot them around 12:30 a.m. According to Deputy Chief Scott Henderson of Patrol Bureau Brooklyn North, five women and three males were shot. They were admitted to Kings County Hospital in a stable condition.
Deputy Chief John Chell of Brooklyn North police said two rounds were fired into units in the housing complex. He said that no one was hurt in those apartments.
Also, four gunshot victims walked into other hospitals, police added. There were no life-threatening injuries.
A 36-year-old guy was wounded in the leg about 30 minutes earlier near Myrtle Avenue and Lewis Avenue and was transferred to Kings County Hospital in stable condition.
Three men in their 20s were shot at 137th Avenue and West Gate Street in Springfield Gardens at about 10:55 p.m., one in the knee, one in the back, and another in the shoulder. They were rushed to Jamaica Hospital and are expected to make a full recovery.
A 32-year-old man was shot in the leg in front of 35 Norstrand Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant thirty minutes later. He was admitted to the hospital in stable condition.
A 20-year-old man was shot in the face after a dispute in Ozone Park at 12:15 a.m. He was admitted to the hospital in stable condition.
After another motorist arrived and opened fire, a 16-year-old driving with two other youths was shot in the head about 20 minutes later. The driver’s condition is critical. The other teenagers were sent to Brookdale Hospital for treatment.
All of the shooting suspects are still on the loose.
Despite this, gunshots were down overall last week compared to the previous year, with 56 individuals shot in 43 incidences, according to cops. According to authorities, 87 people were shot in 68 incidents on the same days in 2020, during a murderous summer in the Big Apple, New York Post reported.
However, gun violence has increased somewhat this year, with 1,163 individuals shot in 983 incidents as of Sunday. The NYPD recorded 1,087 shooting victims in 888 occurrences during the same time period in 2020.
