The NYPD is searching for a man accused of attacking and robbing an 88-year-old New York City woman in her Manhattan apartment, stealing the thousands she had saved up to buy a headstone for her late husband’s grave.
Just before noon Saturday, as Maximina Osorio was arriving home at her Alphabet City apartment near East 10th Street and Avenue D, an unidentified man grabbed her from behind and pushed her through the doorway to the ground after she unlocked her door, police said.
One man then asked her, “Where’s the money?”
Osorio told the attacker that her money was in a drawer in her bedroom, according to police.
The man proceeded to take $5,000 in cash from the victim’s bedroom and ran off, officials said.
This took place on Saturday at 11:45 a.m. The 89-year-old woman was taken to the hospital for neck and back pain but has since been released.
Osorio later told police she had that large sum of cash because she was saving the money for two years in order to buy the gravestone for her late husband.
One of the robbers was described as Hispanic with a light complexion, around 160 pounds, and approximately 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with a full beard. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue hoodie, a blue T-shirt, white sneakers, a backpack, and a black-and-blue Philadelphia Flyers baseball cap.
Anyone with information in regard to this incident is urged to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
