A 7-year-old New York boy was rushed to the hospital after a homeless man picked him up and slammed him headfirst to the ground while he and his brother were waiting for pizza to be delivered outside their grandfather’s house.
The incident occurred just before 5 p.m. on Thursday Oct. 10, in the Kew Gardens neighborhood of Queens in New York City.
The boy was sitting on a front step when Laurance Gendreau, 35, approached him, picked him up and threw him on the ground head first, officials say.
The child was rushed to Cohen Children’s Medical Center by EMS and is being treated for hemorrhaging to the brain and a contusion to the head.
In spite of serious injury, he is expected to survive the injuries from the assault.
Laurance Gendreau, who police describe as emotionally disturbed, was arrested and charged with assault, harassment and acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17.. The motive for the attack is unknown.
The investigation is ongoing.
