Abstract

A 10-year-old boy riding his bike in Brooklyn was struck and killed by a car, and the driver is facing charges.

Police said Dalerjon Shahobiddinov was riding his bike in Midwood around 10:33 a.m. Saturday when he was struck by a Ford Explorer.

The boy was taken to Maimonides Medical Center in critical condition, where he died from his injuries.

The driver, 29-year-old Victor Mejia, was unlicensed at the time, according to police. He remained at scene and was arrested shortly after the accident.

He has now been charged with motor vehicle failure to yield to a bicyclist, failure to exercise due care, and driving without a license.

The incident is still under investigation.

The death of the boy is the 23rd accidental bike fatality this year—more than double last year’s numbers.
