New York Election Board Executive Director Todd Valentine, along with Suffolk County Election Commissioner Nick LaLota, warned that some noncitizens as well as illegal aliens were being listed as eligible to vote in the upcoming New York election.

According to LaLota, illegal aliens can apply for driver’s licenses in that state, making it possible for them to mistakenly become eligible registered voters, as reported by Just The News.

Since December 2019 the state passed the Driver’s License Access and Privacy Act, which allows anyone over the age of 16 to apply for a state driver’s license regardless of their U.S. citizenship status.

According to the New York Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) website, “The DMV does not approve or deny voter registration applications,” but they “send the application to the County or City Board of Elections for their review.”

“The state automatically registers them to vote unless they check a small box saying that no, they don’t want to get registered to vote,” LaLota said.

The Suffolk County election commissioner added that there were not an “adequate number of rules, laws, and regulations to stop that kind of nefarious activity.”

He further indicated that as the county election commissioner he was not allowed within the range of duties he performed to find and remove noncitizens from the voter file.

Meanwhile, Valentine said that some citizens were incorrectly registered with the DMV as a result of the automated voter registration system.

According to Valentine, “If they don’t check the box, and say they are a citizen, it is going to go through and get that [voter] application … it’s very difficult in the back end because there is no list of citizens that’s ever been given to any state or county across the entire country.”

Valentine said that the current system relies on the honesty of noncitizens as well as illegal aliens to attest to their asylum status in the country during the DMV registration process.

According to Breitbart News, Democratic lawmakers, who are along with the business lobby behind the support of the Drivers License Access and Privacy Act, have recognized that the law allows aliens access to the vote.

“Theoretically, they could have the ability to vote,” said Democratic state Sen. Luis Sepulveda.

In a state like California, where illegal aliens have also been given access to driver’s licenses, voter fraud has become commonplace.

As Breitbart News pointed out, last year the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) admitted that it had registered 1,500 ineligible voters, including noncitizens, in the course of just six months.
