A group of nearly 70 former national security and senior officials have backed President Donald Trump for re-election, saying that he “has pursued a strong foreign and national security policy in America’s national interests.”

In a statement released on Friday, Oct. 2, the group introduced that they had served under the administrations of Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, and/or Donald Trump, or as Republican members of Congress or senior congressional staff members.

“We proudly endorse the re-election of Donald J. Trump,” they said and that “President Trump has brought a badly needed realism to American national security policy that puts the prosperity and security of the American people first.”

“President Trump has pursued a strong foreign and national security policy in America’s national interests,” they continued.

The group praised the president for imposing hard sanctions on North Korea, China, Iran, and Russia, for persuading NATO allies to meet their defense spending obligations, and for creating the new military branch—U.S. Space Force—in deterring China and Russia’s hypersonic weapons and anti-satellite technology.

The Trump administration has brokered the “Abraham Accords,” establishing diplomatic and business relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, and a similar diplomatic deal between Israel and Bahrain. It has also helped negotiate a business and commerce thaw between Serbia and Kosovo.

The administration has also weakened Iran—a perennial American antagonist. Iran is bankrupt, isolated, and still reels from President Trump’s decision to take out the most powerful Gen. Qasem Soleimani.

For China, President Trump holds the country accountable for its predatory trade practices, its systematic incarceration of Muslim and Christian minorities, its theft of land and resources across the South and East China seas, its corrupt practices in the Belt and Road Initiative, and looting of the free world’s intellectual property.

For those reasons, the group concluded that President Trump should be re-elected as president of the United States.
