Here and there we feel frustrated hearing stories about people who fake GoFundMe for their own benefit, but this story will leave you at a loss. A mother from Florida was booked into jail for murdering her own 10-month-old son to earn money from the fundraising campaign.

Victoria Grace Jackson, 24, made a heartbreaking plea for donations in June, days after the death of her son, Malachi, on May 24, Gray News reported

The mother told Clearwater police she found the little boy “unresponsive” in his crib. Hospital staff did all they could, but the boy’s life could not be saved.

“I want to give my son the best memorial service I can,” the fundraising page read. “We don’t know what the cause is yet, I woke up and he wasn’t breathing and had bloody foam coming from his nose. I’ve never been so heartbroken in my life. Please help me take care of my baby one last time.”

Jackson set the goal at $5,000. Over 100 people donated a total of $4,393, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Meanwhile, police continued to investigate the little boy’s death. They searched her home after her initial 911 call in May, but they didn’t find any evidence to prove her version of events was false.

Months after Malachi was laid to rest, on Oct. 30, one of Jackson’s friends reached out to police and told them that Jackson confessed using a pillow to cover Malachi’s nose and mouth until he stopped breathing.

Investigators said they recorded a phone call with Jackson in which she incriminated herself. They arrested her on Friday, Nov. 1, and she confessed soon after, police said.

Investigators also noted that Jackson made suicidal statements after the confession and that she was potentially suffering from mental health issues.

Jackson was transferred to the Pinellas County Jail and has been charged with first-degree murder, according to the CPD.

The GoFundMe page was taken down on Nov. 2, People reported.

The company has already begun issuing refunds to the donors who contributed to Jackson’s fundraising campaign, according to Gray News.
