A majority of likely U.S. voters approve deploying military force to rescue the Americans left behind in Afghanistan by the United States.

According to a Rasmussen poll issued on Monday, Sept. 6, 69 percent of likely U.S. voters believe the U.S. should use military force if necessary to rescue Americans left in Afghanistan. Sixteen percent of those polled disagree, while fourteen percent are unsure.

“Majorities of voters across party lines would support military intervention to rescue U.S. hostages,” according to the survey, which interviewed 1,000 likely voters in the United States from September 1 to 2, 2021, with a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points and a confidence level of 95 percent.

Seventy-nine percent of Republicans, 63 percent of Democrats, and 66% of unaffiliated people support military involvement by the United States.

The poll was conducted just after the Associated Press revealed that at least 500 Americans are stranded in Afghanistan, contrary to President Joe Biden’s estimate of 100 and 200, Breitbart reported.

In his first public appearance since the terrorist attack in Afghanistan, President Biden promised all Americans, who wanted to leave the Middle Eastern country, would be evacuated on Aug. 31.

“Ninety percent of Americans in Afghanistan who wanted to leave were able to leave,” he said in a statement.

“We believe that about 100 to 200 Americans remain in Afghanistan, with some intention to leave,” he continued. “Most of those who remain are dual citizens, longtime residents who had earlier decided to stay because of their family roots in Afghanistan.”

Less than a third of people think the U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan was a success, and the vast majority believe Congress should investigate what went wrong. Fifty-three percent feel the Biden administration “failed to take proper precaution against a Taliban takeover.”

“By contrast, among voters who Strongly Disapprove of Biden’s performance, 93 percent think the administration failed to take proper precautions against a Taliban takeover,” according to the poll.
