May 13 marks the 23rd World Falun Dafa Day and the 30th anniversary since the ancient self-cultivation practice was brought to the public by founder Li Hongzhi in China. Today, people practice Falun Dafa in over 100 countries around the world.
Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, is a spiritual practice in the Buddhist tradition to improve mind and body. It promotes the values of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance, and introduces a set of exercises and meditation, according to Falun Info.
Da Ji Yuan reported that more than 100 government officials at all levels in New York commemorated the event.
They include eight Federal Representatives, 21 state representatives, County Executives, City Mayors, Legislators, Councilors, Town Supervisors, and others. They issued the Special Congressional Recognition to honor World Falun Dafa Day.
Sean Patrick Maloney, Congressman for the 18th District, said, “We thank Falun Dafa for recognizing the values of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance, which benefit all of us. To those going who face hardships, it sends a powerful message of solidarity. We recognize and come together in the community to appreciate their work.”
Representative Yvette Clarke of the Ninth District wrote that she acknowledged Falun Dafa with great honor and recognition for its distinguished and positive contributions to the U.S.
Representative Hakeem Jeffries of the 8th District said, “Falun Dafa has been an integral and positive part of the lives of many. Not only is it a wide-reaching movement, but its practices also have tangible effects on our societies. Offering access to many different necessities is important to the thriving of New Yorkers and many more around the globe, so we are all celebrating this anniversary, and we are all appreciative of the work of Mr. Li Hongzhi for his founding of this spiritual practice.”
The New York State Senate passed Resolution No. 2278 to celebrate the 23rd “World Falun Dafa Day” and the 30th anniversary of Falun Dafa’s introduction to the public.
The resolution states that “The Falun Dafa philosophy espouses the idea that when the heart is pure, the mind balanced, and the body energized, health and happiness are a natural outcome.”
The resolution said that Falun Gong goes beyond the pursuit of health and fitness to the goal of greater wisdom and enlightenment.
Andrea Stewart-Cousins, a Democrat from New York State’s 35th Senate District and state Senate Majority Leader, honored Falun Gong practitioners for their resilience against the persecution in China.
In 1999, Jiang Zemin, the general secretary of the Communist Party of China at that time, launched a campaign to eradicate the practice, which has remained until this day.
Cousins acknowledged in her commemoration that the life ethics and traditional Chinese culture followed by Falun Gong were a severe threat to the atheist regime of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party.)
Cousins said that Falun Dafa practitioners have consistently refused to use violence as the persecution continues. Instead, the practitioners printed the truth on leaflets, risked their lives trying to spread it to others, and exposed the CCP’s crimes to Chinese citizens.
Senator Andrew Lanza of New York State Senate District 24 said Falun Dafa’s precepts of Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance are the fundamental characteristic of the universe and should be the principle of daily life.
He said that Falun Dafa practitioners touch the lives of New Yorkers during difficult times, providing New Yorkers with free Falun Dafa practice instructions and health benefits in practice camps, cultural events, or outdoor practice venues.
He also praised the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party that was produced to help Chinese citizens understand the true face of the CCP, its deception, and its full history of crimes.
Representative Karl Brabenec of Assembly District 98 said the CCP started unreasonably trying to eradicate Falun Dafa in China in July 1999. But practitioners responded with tenacity and perseverance.
Representative John T. McDonald III of Assembly District 108 called Falun Dafa’s three principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance a kind of high moral cultivation. He said Falun Dafa practice had become a significant aspect of civic society in this state.
Representative Patricia Fahy of Assembly District 109 said practitioners of Falun Dafa have benefited both physically and mentally. Fahy recognizes that ‘World Falun Dafa Day is a holiday of extraordinary significance, a holiday worthy of the respect of the great state of New York.
