The body of a missing Mansfield woman was found in a Dayton home Monday afternoon, Nov. 25, a few days after her boyfriend’s body was found.

Kyla Hayton, 20, and Todd Burkhart, 28, were reported missing last week.

They were recently traveling to Columbus and Dayton, where their car was found on Wednesday.

Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger said Hayton died as a result of “multiple gunshot wounds.” The death is being investigated as a homicide.

The coroner announced that Hayton was five months pregnant when she was killed. “The child died because she died. Obviously too young to survive outside the womb. The child died not from injuries sustained, but because mother sustained injuries.”

Burkhart’s body was found inside a house on Friday.

Police said Burkhart died from multiple gunshot wounds.

His death was ruled a homicide.

According to Dayton police, there is a person of interest in custody. He’s being held on weapons charges.

As the investigation is ongoing, they would not elaborate on a motive.
