Minneapolis’s Democratic Mayor Jacob Frey was booed by protesters on Saturday, June 6, after refusing to commit to defunding the city’s police department, a call that is gaining steam among left-wingers in the wake of the death of George Floyd.

“Jacob Frey, we have a yes or no question for you,” an unidentified protest leader said into the microphone. “Yes or no, will you commit to defunding Minneapolis’s Police Department?”

“I do not support the full abolition of the Minneapolis Police Department,” Frey responded.

“Alright, then get the [expletive] out of here,” the leader yells at him. “Go.”

Frey is seen walking away slowly as protesters shouted at him “go home,” as others booed and chanted “Shame, shame, shame.”

The death of Floyd at the hands of police has sparked nationwide protests and aggravated the already simmering debate on racism and police brutality. Several far-left groups and Democratic politicians have called for either the defunding or the entire abolition of police departments, including former Hillary Clinton press secretary Brian Fallon.

Jeremiah Ellison, a member of the Minneapolis City Council, pledged Thursday that the city would “dismantle” the police department and replace it with “a transformative new model for public safety.”

“We are going to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department,” Ellison tweeted. “And when we’re done, we’re not simply gonna glue it back together. We are going to dramatically rethink how we approach public safety and emergency response. It’s really past due.”

On Saturday, protesters painted “Defund the Police” in yellow onto a street near the White House.

Former Secret Service Officer Dan Bongino predicted that “will be the deadliest public policy disaster in modern American history” if the defund the police movement is enacted.

“People will die. They’ll lose their homes, they’ll lose their lives, they’ll be injured, they’ll be killed. They’ll lose their kids—you’ll lose your car,” Bongino told Hannity when asked what would happen if America’s cities told their police forces to go home for a month.

“[The police] are not perfect all the time. They make mistakes,” Bongino added. “We are all sinners. But this will get you killed or hurt if you follow this outrageous proposal to defund and abolish the police. It is insane.”
