For the presidential candidates, every gesture, fashion statement, or faux pas as the 2020 election edges closer is watched and commented on by mainstream media.

They attempt to turn it all into a black mark against the Republicans, or a glowing report for the Democrats, in an effort to sway voters.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. A typical example is the shoe issue recently highlighted in mainstream media.

On Wednesday, Sept. 16, Kamala Harris was praised for wearing Timberland boots in a photo opportunity while looking at the wildfire devastation in her home state of California, accompanied by Gov. Newsom.

Harris’s picture was met with glowing headlines in the media, followed by plenty of compliments on Twitter.

Women For Trump co-founder Amy Kremer emphasized that Melania Trump wore Timberlands on several occasions and was met with hostility from the media.

Kremer drew attention to two headlines, both from Yahoo News: “Kamala Harris may have made Timberland boots cool again” and the other from December 2018 that noted: “Melania Trump gets mocked for wearing Timberland boots while visiting the troops.”

“I’ve never see such media bias in my life… Over #timberland boots! Freaking shoes people. Shoes!” Kremer exclaimed.

USA Today’s headline on Harris read, “Timbs and Converse? Kamala Harris sports boots after wearing Chuck Taylor All-Stars.”

In contrast, the newspaper’s headline about the first lady read, “Work boots and white jeans? Melania Trump’s outfits still missing the mark,” as Fox News reported.

Other such media biases include Marie Claire, who published an article with the headline, Kamala Harris Wears Her Timberlands, Gets [Expletive] Done.

Meanwhile, Teen Vogue ran with Melania Trump’s Puerto Rico outfit and heels spark backlash back in 2017.

“It’s no wonder the American people don’t trust the media,” Kremer said.

“I know this isn’t really about the boots. But the boots show the extreme #mediabias.

The media will go to any length to push their own agenda. This is disgusting. As I said in an earlier tweet, it’s no wonder Americans don’t trust them,” she continued.

This isn’t the first time the Democratic vice-presidential nominee has received praise over her fashion choices. Earlier this month, a report from The Washington Post highlighted the Chuck Taylor All-Stars the senator wore during her visit to Milwaukee.

“By Tuesday morning, videos by two reporters witnessing her arrival had been viewed nearly 8 million times on Twitter,” Post reporter Chelsea Janes wrote, “For comparison’s sake, more than four times the attention the campaign’s biggest planned video event—a conversation between Joe Biden and Barack Obama—had received on both Twitter and YouTube combined.”

The Post’s report on Sept. 7, carried the headline, Kamala D. Harris goes viral—for her shoe choice, said Janes, adding, “At this point in a presidential campaign, every move is calculated, often to convey a sense of youth and energy and fitness to reassure voters of a candidate’s ability to handle the rigors of running the country, or helping to do so.”
