A Washington man experienced instant karma over the weekend after someone stole his car while he was robbing a store across the street, police said.
The incident took place at around 6 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25, when Kennewick police arrived at the scene on the 500 block of East Bruneau Avenue following reports of a vehicle theft.
The vehicle’s owner, William Kelley, told officials that someone riding by on a bike had stolen his red 1992 Chevy pickup. Kelley said he had left his keys behind on the seat inside the truck.
But when police reviewed CCTV footage of the incident, a new fact came to light. “Kelley was at the location because he was stealing items from a business across the street,” Kennewick Police Department said in its Facebook post.
Kelley was then booked in the Benton County jail on a warrant and a new burglary charge.
His vehicle is still missing.
