Remember 42-year-old Jahangir “John” Turan who was beaten in Manhattan by a group of teens for wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat? He has since received a signed MAGA hat and a letter of support from President Donald Trump, WCBS reported.
The New York City art gallery owner told Fox 10 that on the evening of July 30 on Canal Street, he was wearing a MAGA hat that he bought earlier in the day at Trump Tower then out of nowhere, a group of about 15 teens yelled obscenities about President Trump and attacked him.
“One girl flipped my hat and then within 5, 8 seconds, I got pushed from the back and my face hit the scaffolding pole and I got startled,” Turan told reporters at a press conference.
His cheek was fractured and one of his eyes was badly swollen. Turan said he needed to check with an eye specialist to see whether his sight was damaged or not.
After the attack, Turan said he crossed the street and called the police.
He claimed that when the police arrived the group of teenagers were still there and making anti-Trump statements but the officers did nothing about it, WNBC reported.
On Aug. 1 he held a news conference to demand that the NYPD find those responsible for the attack.
To date no arrests have been made, according to ABC News.
“I love President Trump. I think he’s doing a great job,” Turan said. “It’s sad to get beat up for wearing this hat. This is America.”
Turan said he’ll think twice before wearing the hat again in New York City.
