New York City police are searching for a man who tried to rape a 73-year-old woman in Manhattan Sunday, July 7, before punching her in the face.
The suspect demanded sex from the elderly victim he approached at about 12:45 a.m. on Greenwich Street in Lower Manhattan, according to police.
When the woman refused, the suspect attacked her. They said he punched her several times in the face, leaving her with a broken eye socket and missing teeth.
Following the beating, he stole her bag containing $20 before fleeing the scene.
The woman was rushed to an area hospital in serious but stable condition.
Police describe the suspect as a black man, 25 to 35 years old, about 6 feet tall and slim. He was last seen wearing a red tracksuit and gray/white Nike sneakers.
