A Norwalk man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver early on Sunday morning, Sept. 29, in Cerritos as he helped a teenager who had run out of gas alongside the 91 Freeway, police said.

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner and California Highway Patrol officials, the deadly accident happened at around 12:10 a.m. on 91 Freeway,  KTLA reported.

The victim was identified as Miguel Gutierrez Fabian, 34, authorities said.

Gutierrez Fabian was reportedly helping a 16-year-old Norwalk boy with his vehicle, which had run out of gas on the freeway when a white work truck struck him, CHP Officer J.C. Nunez said in the released statement. The truck fled the scene.

Guttierez Fabian was pronounced dead at the scene by responding paramedics. No other injuries were reported.

The white work truck had wooden rails on the bed of the truck and possible collision damage to the right front side of the vehicle.
