Michael Gentry, 32, of Shreveport, LA was arrested June 22nd and charged with the second-degree murder of mail carrier Antonio Williams, 52.
The shooting occurred around 11:20 a.m. Saturday on the 1100 block of Dudley Drive, where Gentry lives, according to the Shreveport Police Department.
The victim suffered at least one gunshot wound to his upper body and was taken to Ochsner LSU Health Center and later died, authorities said.
Shreveport police Detective Angie Willhite told the Shreveport-Times that Williams was doing his job as a mailman during the time he was shot. Police said there was no evidence showing that the two man had been involved in a dispute.
“Mr. Williams was always a kind soul. He did a great job and took pride in what he did always with a smile,” Margaret Halbrooks, a long time resident of Shreveport told The Times.
In a Facebook post-Saturday night, Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins called the incident “a senseless act of violence.”
Gentry was booked into the Shreveport City Jail following interviews with investigators on $250,000.00 bond.
