According to Lamesa Police, the man accused of shooting and killing a pregnant woman from Lamesa was arrested and charged with capital murder.

On Friday, a warrant was issued for 30-year-old Demarcus Bufford of Andrews County. The Lamesa police chief said he was arrested at 6:10 p.m. by Andrews County officers for a traffic violation.

According to the Lamesa Police Department, the woman identified as Champagne Woods and Bufford have a child together. Woods was seven months pregnant and the baby did not survive.

Police said he’s in Andrews County jail right now until he can be arraigned and then moved to Dawson County.

Lamesa Police said the case is still being investigated.
