Trump Super PAC no longer has Corey Lewandowski as chairman of the MAGA Action political action committee due to accusations of sexual misconduct.
The departure was announced by Taylor Budowich, director of communications for Trump, on Twitter.
“Corey Lewandowski will be going on to other endeavors and we very much want to thank him for his service. He will no longer be associated with Trump World,” Budowich wrote.
Lewandowski, 48, was a top aide to former President Trump. He was accused of nonconsensual approaches and groping a donor improperly at a Las Vegas dinner last Sunday.
“He repeatedly touched me inappropriately, said vile and disgusting things to me, stalked me, and made me feel violated and fearful,” said the donor, by the name Trashelle Odom, according to Politico.
Odom, among the major Republican donors at the Sunday dinner, sat next to Lewandowski.
According to a statement by her family’s attorney, Lewandowski touched Odom’s leg and back multiple times despite her always rebuffing him. In addition to unwarranted language, he also grew aggressive at some points and threw a drink at her.
“Corey was verbally and physically aggressive and forceful. I was fearful for my physical safety,” Odom said.
She was worried about retaliation from Lewandowski too. She feared that the top Trump aide had influential power over who might be allowed to be around the former president.
One attendee learned from Odom that no candidate obtains the president’s endorsement without Lewandowski’s consent.
Lewandowski has declined to comment so far. But his attorney said that “accusations and rumor appear to be morphing by the minute and we will not dignify them with a further response.”
Lewandowski has long been one of Trump’s most trusted advisers. However, after clashes with Trump’s children and a series of episodes that the Trump family feared had cast Donald Trump in an unfavorable light, he was fired in June 2016. However, according to The New York Times, Trump began reaching out to Lewandowski again a month later, and he was quickly welcomed back into the fold.
The former president has personally entrusted Lewandowski to lead Make America Great Again Action, the major pro-Trump super PAC.
Lewandowski has been accused of inappropriate conduct in the past.
