The Las Vegas Raiders football team pledged to pay $500,000 for school meal debt across Nevada state.

The National School Lunch and Breakfast Program, according to a media release sent Wednesday, Jan. 22, is a federally funded meal service in public and nonprofit charter schools.

If households are unable to afford school meals and don’t have consistency for lower prices or free lunch, the school’s debt is accrued. The donation fills the gap between schools and families that are unable to pay off their debts.

“We commend Mark Davis for actively seeking opportunities like this that make a real difference for Nevada students and residents,” said Gian Brosco, president & CEO of the  Nevada Community Foundation, in a prepared statement.

The donation comes hours after the official renaming of the Las Vegas Raiders.
