Lara Trump, who leads the GOP field in North Carolina’s 2022 Senate election despite not officially entering the race, suggested that American residents along the southern border may have no other choice but have to arm themselves and be ready amid the worsening border crisis.

In an interview on Fox News on Saturday, June 12, host Jeannine Pirro played a clip of a border resident who said, “I sat here and waited and I actually saw them cross the river. And I knew they were heading directly to my gate to cross through my property. That was the most disgusting feeling I have ever felt in my life.”

In her reaction to the clip, Lara, daughter-in-law of former President Donald Trump, described it as disgusting and a disgrace to the Biden administration, especially Vice President Kamala Harris who was assigned to lead the administration’s response to the immigration issues.

“This is horrifying stuff. And you know what? It must be so insulting to the folks that actually work on the southern border, to our Border Patrol agents, to our ICE agents, to the people whose jobs it has been for so long to deal with this,” Lara told Pirro.

“It’s like they’re being made a mockery of by our very own president and Vice President. Shame on them. It is absolutely disgusting and disgraceful to see,” she said.

“I don’t know what you tell the people that live at the southern border. I guess they better arm up and get guns and be ready, and maybe they’re gonna have to start taking matters into their own hands,” Lara continued.

“It should never happen. These people should never make this dangerous journey here. It’s bad for Americans, it’s bad for the migrants, it is bad all around,” she said.

Lara’s comments came two days after U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) released its latest data showing they encountered 180,034 people attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border in May, a 674% increase over last year.

“The large number of expulsions during the pandemic has contributed to a larger-than-usual number of noncitizens making multiple border crossing attempts, and means total encounters somewhat overstate the number of unique individuals arriving at the border,” CBP said in a note.

“Thirty-eight percent of encounters in May 2021 were individuals who had at least one prior encounter in the previous 12 months, compared to an average one-year re-encounter rate of 15 percent for Fiscal Years 2014-2019,” the agency said.

Though the situation in the border is considered out of control, Harris has refused to travel there for nearly 80 days since President Biden put her in charge of handling the border issues in March.

“They have just said ‘well, the border’s closed,’ as though that is enough to satisfy Americans, like that is enough to satisfy the people that actually live on the southern border and are dealing with this situation every single day. It is insulting, it is embarrassing,” Lara said of the Biden administration in the interview.

“This is a woman who thinks she can cackle her way out of a tough question. It is absolutely ridiculous. She’s clearly in over her head,” she said of Harris.

“She had one job assigned to her — to address the crisis at the southern border. Not only has she not addressed it, it has gotten significantly worse. Crossings at our southern border are up 674% this year,” Lara said. “This is a woman that needs to get down to the southern border and address this problem. Otherwise, it is going to be a complete and total disaster for the future of America.”
