A Kentucky man was accused of raping and robbing an 8-year-old girl and fracturing her skull with a shovel, police said.
The suspect was identified as Cane L. Madden, 29. He was arrested on Saturday, Aug. 10, and charged with first-degree rape, assault, and robbery.
According to a Louisville police arrest citation, officers responded Friday afternoon to the 1700 block of Hale Avenue on a report of a beaten girl robbed of her iPad. The girl was found to have a fractured skull among other injuries indicating sexual assault.
Madden was seen nearby before and after the time of the alleged assault. He was questioned by detectives at LMPD’s Second Division headquarters, where he told detectives details about the assault that were deemed “intimate.”
He was booked into Louisville Metro Corrections, where he remains held in lieu of a $1 million bond, according to court records.
Madden previously faced other charges that he sexually assaulted a woman and bit off part of her face in 2017. Judge Annie O’Connell ruled him mentally incompetent and dismissed the charges in February.
