Vice President Kamala Harris has finally decided to visit the U.S.-Mexico border after spending more than three months since she was elected to be responsible for the immigration crisis. Coincidentally, the decision was announced just a few days after former President Trump confirmed that he would be visiting the border at the end of the month.
Harris’ visit is scheduled for June 25 and will tour the area of El Paso, Texas, on the U.S.-Mexico border, accompanied by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, according to the Texas Tribune.
The vice president, who was assigned by President Joe Biden to oversee efforts to address the root causes of migration from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, has not visited the border since taking office.
Those affected by the migration crisis have been pressuring Harris to visit the border for months. Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott has blamed the Biden administration’s immigration policies for the exponential increase of immigrants at the state’s southern border since the Democrats took power in the White House.
He also warned in declaring the “disaster situation” earlier this month that new federal policies have paved the way for “dangerous gangs and cartels, human traffickers, and deadly drugs like fentanyl to pour into our communities.”
It now appears that Harris has been forced to visit the border so as not to allow Donald Trump to visit the conflict zone first before her, knowing that such a situation would not be forgiven even by her own Democratic voters.
Last week Trump revealed that he accepted an invitation to visit the U.S.-Mexico border together with Texas Governor Greg Abbott on an official trip.
During his announcement, Trump assured that “The Biden Administration inherited from me the strongest, safest and most secure border in the history of the United States,” lamenting that it had now been transformed into an absolute disaster due to bad policies that incentivize migrants to make dangerous journeys to reach the U.S. and try their luck, knowing that there is now a government that defends globalist leftist ideals that push open border policies to attract thousands of migrants who will soon be transformed into voters for his party.
In April, Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich said in a dialogue with Fox News that Harris repeatedly ignored his invitations to tour the state’s border facilities and did not respond to his repeated invitations.
Trump issued a statement commenting on Harris’ trip criticizing both her and President Joe Biden.
“After months of ignoring the crisis at the Southern Border, it is great that we got Kamala Harris to finally go and see the tremendous destruction and death that they’ve created—a direct result of Biden ending my very tough but fair Border policies,” Trump said. “If Governor Abbott and I weren’t going there next week, she would have never gone!”
Biden, upon taking office, reversed and modified several key immigration policies implemented during the Trump era, after which the border situation undeniably worsened exponentially.
Multitudes of migrant children without accompanying adults arrived at the border and were welcomed despite the CCP Virus pandemic. As a result, more than 6,000 children at one time were in the custody of Customs and Border Protection (CBP), which is neither equipped nor trained to care for minors.
There are also serious allegations that indicate the unrestricted entry of drug traffickers, human traffickers, hired assassins, and members of the famous Central American “maras,” which are terrorist groups focused on criminal businesses.
