Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden is in two minds, as he says he is “absolutely” in support of “redirecting” funding away from police. However, he objects to defunding of the police force. Is Biden weakening his stance on defunding under pressure, or is it just another gaffe?

On July 8, in an interview with liberal activist Ady Barkan, Biden was asked, But do we agree that we can redirect some of the funding?” Biden replied: “Yes. Absolutely!”

Barkan used a Black Lives Matter argument by organizers that if the funds for police were rerouted to other areas, such as mental health counseling, affordable housing, and social services, it would result in a drop in deadly police encounters.
“Are you open to that kind of reform?” Barkan asked. Biden replied: “Yes. I proposed that kind of reform.”

Biden also decried the use of military equipment such as armed vehicles, suggesting they will be perceived as “the enemy.”

“Surplus military equipment for law enforcement—they don’t need that,” Biden said. “The last thing you need is an up-armored Humvee coming into a neighborhood; it’s like the military invading. They don’t know anybody; they become the enemy; they’re supposed to be protecting these people.”

Urban crime has surged nationwide recently, and on July 13, President Trump addressed the issue at a roundtable with stakeholders positively impacted by law enforcement. “Far-left mayors are escalating the anti-cop crusade, and violent crime is spiraling in their cities. It’s all far-left cities where they have no understanding of what has to be done.”

Reckless politicians have defamed our law enforcement heroes as “the enemy.” said the president.

“As violent crime continues to rise in Democrat-controlled cities, Joe Biden has completely abandoned the police—leaving Americans unprotected in their own country. In recent months, Joe Biden has aligned himself with radical socialists like AOC and the ‘Squad,’ who recently introduced legislation to defund law enforcement entirely,” said the Trump campaign, reports JustTheNews.

“In one recent week in New York City—this is hard to believe—shootings were up 358 percent, and yet they spend all their time—they want to do Black Lives latter [sic]—Matter signs outside of Trump Tower. They ought to spend their time doing something else because I’ll tell you what: 358 percent increase in shootings in New York,” said the president.

“If that’s what you want for a country, you probably have to vote for Sleepy Joe Biden, because he doesn’t know what’s happening,” President Trump said. “The radical politicians are waging war on innocent Americans. That’s what you’re doing when you play with the police. My administration is pro-safety, pro-police, and anti-crime.”

On Thursday, Vice President Mike Pence spoke at a “Back the Blue Rally” with police officers and supporters in northeastern Philadelphia.

“And I heard that just yesterday, Joe Biden said that well-armed police in his words’ become the enemy’ and he said that he would ‘absolutely cut funding for law enforcement,'” Pence said.
