A jail warden from New York was arrested on suspicion of murdering her spouse.

Ocean County has charged Metropolitan Detention Center associate warden Antonia Ashford with murdering her husband on Aug. 2.

The 44-year-old allegedly shot Roderick Ashford dead at their Jackson Township residence. Jackson Township Police Department discovered a firearm at the scene, and also charged the woman with possessing a weapon for an “unlawful purpose.”

“Officers found the body of Roderick Ashford, 47, lying unresponsive on the floor with a gunshot wound to the face,” Ocean County said in a statement. “Attempts were made to revive Mr. Ashford but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

“An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office major crime unit, Jackson Township Police Department detective bureau, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office crime scene investigation unit determined that Antonia Ashford pointed a handgun at Mr. Ashford and discharged the weapon–thereby causing his death,” the county added.

BL understands there was no outcome of the Ashford case at the time of publication. The suspect claims she acted in self-defense.

Ashford was responsible for supervising security, performing disciplinary procedures, managing admissions and liaising with professional staff who visited the Brooklyn, detention center. Two of her most noteworthy inmates include Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell and singer R. Kelly.

However, the warden has now found herself on the other side of the justice system. Prosecutors confirmed Ashford was transported to the Ocean County Jail, where she will stay until a detention hearing. No date or bond was set at the time of publication.
