President Donald J. Trump on Monday said he was willing to hold his North Carolina campaign rally outside in the rain.
The president quipped that it would have proved his hair is real. He told supporters and rally goers that his hair is “a lot better” than most of his peers.
Speaking in Fayetteville, North Carolina, President Trump commented on the size of the campaign location, saying he wanted a larger venue for the rally in support of Dan Bishop.
“I go out and sometimes I’ll be at these huge audiences, and I wish we could have gotten a larger arena than this, we tried,” said the president, quipping about getting his much-speculated-about hair “soaking wet. ”
“I was even willing to stand out in the rain and get my hair soaking wet, but they said it was a little bit out of your district. And I said I don’t know if it looks good being out of your district,” he said. “But I was willing to do, and I would have taken it, I would have been very proud to have done it.”
“It would have shown it’s my real hair at least, it wouldn’t be pretty,” but “it’s my hair.” His lighthearted remarks prompted peels of laughter from the crowd.
At 73 years old, the president said, “his hair may not be great but, I will say it’s better than most of my friends who are the same age,” and “A lot better. A lot.”
The Trump campaign had to move Monday’s rally venue from the Fayetteville Regional Airport to the city’s Crown Expo Center due to logistics concerning flights departing the airport hangar.
President Trump also had to cancel his visit to Emerald Isle in North Carolina to inspect the storm damage from Hurricane Dorian, due to poor weather conditions. In its place, the president received an update about the damage while on Air Force One.
