Two illegal immigrants were arrested after attempting to climb a newly installed section of a California border wall without success.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said the two men were caught attempting to cross from Mexico illegally into San Diego. Surveillance footage from the border showed men attempting to scale the border wall and failing.

Then the two men could be seen fleeing back to Mexico, but were compelled to hide when the border officials reacted. They seemed to hide in a few crates when the border agents cornered them.

Officials said the newly installed primary border barrier thwarted males’ efforts to enter the United States and gave officers time take them into custody.

“Unable to scale the new primary border barrier and flee back to Mexico, two men who entered the U.S. illegally near San Diego were arrested by Border Patrol,” the CBP San Diego tweeted on Monday, Aug. 19.

“Barriers give agents the time they need to respond and contain illicit activity at the immediate border.”

The project, which was started on President Donald Trump’s orders in 2017, replaced a decades-old border wall in San Diego.

The president said on Monday, “Democrats want Open Borders and Crime! So dangerous for our Country. But we are building a big, beautiful, NEW Wall! I will protect America, the Dems don’t know where to start!”

The While House also shared a video on Monday, saying “Wall construction is underway near Otay Mesa, California!”
