Billy Chemirmir, a 46-year-old illegal immigrant from Kenya accused of murdering 19 elderly people, will face the death penalty proposed by the Dallas County, Texas District Attorney’s Office on July 30.
Chemirmir pretended to be a maintenance worker to enter elderly women’s apartments in Dallas and Collin counties in North Texas, and then suffocated them with a pillow to steal their jewelry and sell it online or pawn it, according to DallasMorningNews.
The defendant is being held in the Dallas County Jail on $11.6 million bail.
For its part, the police investigated 750 deaths dating back to the period 2010-2011, suspecting that there are many more victims.
Also, the Frisco and Plano police said that two women older than 90 years were also attacked by the immigrant, but survived. In this case, police were following him when they saw that he threw a jewelry box into a container.
Through the jeweler’s analysis they arrived at the home of Lu Thi Harris, an 81-year-old woman, where they found lipstick on a pillow near her body.
Police officer David Tilley of Plano, Texas, said they wanted a full investigation into the case they had been reviewing since last year, according to Fox4News.
Chemirmir has lived in the Dallas area for more than 10 years and has been charged with one count of DUI and one count of assault, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
In 2016, he had also been accused of trespassing on a retirement community in Dallas where one of his alleged victims lived, according to the Washington Post.
According to his defense attorney, the defendant alleges his innocence.
