U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will be carrying out the court-ordered deportation of thousands of illegal immigrants nationwide.
According to CNN, ICE officials are planning attacks in 10 American cities on Sunday, arrest ing and deporting thousands of illegal migrants whose court trials have concluded.
“If you’re here illegally, then you should be removed,” acting ICE Director Mark Morgan told reporters Wednesday. “And in this case, that includes families.”
The raids this weekend will target more than 2,000 illegally-residing families in the United States who have already been served with orders for deportation.
The raids are an attempt to reinforce the fact that illegal immigrants will not be considered beyond reproach using their families as a shield from removal.
“This is not about fear,” Morgan said in an ABC News Live interview. “No one is instilling fear in anyone. This is about the rule of law and maintaining the integrity of the system.”
“Right now, the greatest pull factors for families to come here is they know that once they arrive in the U.S., they remain here untouched. We have to change that,” Morgan said.
The attacks were scheduled for several months, with original notes being given in February to households and ICE officers being educated for the procedure for several months, CNN said.
The court orders were sent to illegal immigrant families in Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York and San Francisco.
President Trump tweeted the mandate on Monday, June 17, while also praising Mexico’s strong immigration laws.
“Next week ICE will begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the United States. They will be removed as fast as they come in. ” the president wrote on Twitter.
“Mexico, using their strong immigration laws, is doing a very good job of stopping people … long before they get to our Southern Border. Guatemala is getting ready to sign a Safe-Third Agreement,” the tweet continued. “The only ones who won’t do anything are the Democrats in Congress. They must vote to get rid of the loopholes, and fix asylum! If so, Border Crisis will end quickly!”
Morgan said, they don’t have the resources to deport 11 million people in a short time, “but we have and we remove people every single year. And we’re going to continue to do that,” Morgan told The Hill.
