House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy on Monday, June 21, unveiled a comprehensive plan to hold the CCP accountable for the pandemic that includes canceling the Beijing Winter Olympics, stripping it of immunity so Americans can sue it for material losses and deaths, investigating the WHO and firing its director Tedros, Breitbart reported.

The Republicans’ move appears to be in response to the tepid approach of the Biden administration, which recently stated that it does not intend to push China over the investigation into the origin of the coronavirus.

According to The Hill, Biden’s national security advisor, Jake Sullivan, said this Sunday, June 20, when asked about whether Biden would push China to allow an independent investigation at the Wuhan Institute of Virology:

“We are not at this point going to issue threats or ultimatums. What we’re going to do is continue to rally support in the international community. And if it turns out that China refuses to live up to its international obligations, we will have to consider our responses at that point.”

McCarthy wrote a letter to GOP members explaining that the plan to punish the CCP for the pandemic serves the interests of Americans – Republicans, Democrats and Independents alike, because ‘when our country is under siege, whether man-made or otherwise, we stand together.

“As of June, more than 600,000 Americans and 3.8 million people have died worldwide as a result of Covid-19. The unfortunate reality is that countless friends and family members could have been saved had it not been for the deception of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP),” the GOP leader wrote.

“A March 2020 report by the University of Southampton found if interventions in China could have been conducted one, two, or three weeks earlier, cases could have been reduced by 66 percent, 86 percent and 95 percent respectively. Evidence continues to indicate that the CCP intentionally hid information and lied about what it knew to be true about the virus.,” McCarthy said.

In his letter he also incriminated WHO Director Tedros for having “knowingly and willfully downplayed or outright denied the Chinese government’s malfeasance” and one of the proposed measures involves removing him as head of the international body.

The Republican leader criticized the Biden administration for failing to use the vast power at its disposal to hold the CCP accountable for the pandemic and that similarly Democrats in Congress have failed to materialize any concrete action in that direction.

As part of the Republican effort last week, Representatives Elise Stefanik, R-New York, and Rob Wittman, R-Virginia, introduced a bill to punish Chinese officials implicated in the cover-up.

What are the pillars of the Republicans’ plan to punish the CCP?

A first step would be to declassify any intelligence reports related to the origin of the CCP virus.

Second, cut off all funding for research in and with China that includes the National Institutes of Health (NIH) – where Dr. Fauci is based – since it is known that the Wuhan Institute of Virology was receiving money from the Americans to research dangerous coronaviruses for many years.

Another point is to do a review of the WHO and assign a counterintelligence operation to get to the bottom of what the organization’s actions were and at the same time call for the resignation of Tedros, its current director.

At the same time, the Republicans are demanding that Taiwan be integrated as a WHO observer; something the CCP has fiercely blocked because it would be tantamount to recognizing the island’s independence as a country.

McCarthy also wants sanctions and visa restrictions for those responsible for the pandemic cover-up who want to travel from China to the United States.

Removing immunity from China so that Americans can sue the CCP for losses suffered from the pandemic is another pillar of the Republicans’ plan.

“The families of those who have died from Covid-19 should be given the option to file suit against the Chinese government for damages incurred as a result of the reckless conduct of the CCP,” McCarthy wrote.

“Given the CCP’s active coverup of Covid-19 and contribution to the 3.8 million deaths worldwide, China should not be rewarded by allowing Beijing to host the Winter Olympics in 2022,” the congressman said as one of the steps to be taken to hold the CCP accountable.

Since the Republicans currently do not have a majority in the House and neither do they have a majority in the Senate, they need the support of the Democrats in order to finally bring these proposals to fruition.
