Police in Lufkin, Texas say they have identified the juvenile who was seen in the video showing her licking a tub of Blue Bell ice cream then putting it back in the freezer at a local Walmart.
Last Friday, the Lufkin Police Department said on their Facebook post that the suspect girl licking the ice cream is a juvenile from the San Antonio, TX area, with ties to the area through her boyfriend’s family. The name of the juvenile remains protected under the Texas Family Code and would not be released publicly, said police.
The case now will be turned over to the Texas Juvenile Justice Department.
Before the suspect was identified as a juvenile, police said last Thursday that the female could face a second-degree felony charge that tampers a consumer product that carries two to 20-years behind bars and a possible $10,000 fine.
The woman’s boyfriend is a legal adult, police said. Prosecutors are discussing his involvement in the incident with police as far as whether he will face any charges.
In a statement on its Website last Friday, Blue Bell thanked police and the customers who first alerted the company to the video and said that the ice cream that was licked was never sold. “Our staff recognized the location in the video, and we inspected the freezer case,” the statement said.
