Democratic mega-donor George Soros said President Donald Trump is “very dangerous” and is “fighting” for his political life. He suggested the president would do “anything to stay in power.”
“Even in the United States, a confidence trickster like Trump can be elected president and undermine democracy from within,” Soros told the Italian newspaper La Repubblica during an interview on Tuesday, Aug. 11.
“But in the United States, you have a great tradition of checks and balances and established rules. And above all, you have the Constitution. So I am confident that Trump will turn out to be a transitory phenomenon, hopefully ending in November,” he said.
Soros is a mega-donor to Democratic candidates like Hilary Clinton and presumptive 2020 Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. He gave millions of dollars in January and February to the main super PACs planning to help Biden and Democratic Senate candidates, including $5 million to pro-Biden “Priorities USA” and $7 million to “Senate Majority PAC.”
The founder of the Open Society Foundation has poured billions into progressive causes. In July, the organization announced that it was investing $220 million in the push for racial justice. The money will be granted to various civil rights and racial equality groups like Black Voters Matter and the Equal Justice Initiative.
The billionaire spent $28.3 million on the 2020 election during the first three months of the year, including $10 million to fight voter disenfranchisement. Soros had concerns that people of color and other infrequent voters could be disenfranchised in the coming months due to the CCP Virus pandemic.
During the interview, Soros said that President Trump remains “very dangerous” because he is “fighting for his life” to win this upcoming election.
Soros also lashed out at President Trump in May, claiming the president would be a “dictator” if it were not for the U.S. Constitution.
“Donald Trump would like to be a dictator,” Soros told the Independent. “But he cannot be one because there is a constitution in the United States that people still respect. And it will prevent him from doing certain things. That does not mean that he will not try, because he is literally fighting for his life.”
“I will also say that I have put my faith in Trump to destroy himself, and he has exceeded my wildest expectations,” he added.
