The former director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Robert Redfield, has reported receiving death threats from other scientists after claiming he defends the theory that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Virus (COVID-19) originated in a laboratory in Wuhan.

During an interview in Vanity Fair published Thursday, June 3, Redfield said that he received a significant amount of backlash following his claims on CNN earlier this year. Redfield said he was a proponent of the theory that the virus had leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology in Wuhan, China, contrary to the official story espoused by the CCP.

During the interview on CNN, Redfield candidly admitted, “I am of the point of view that I still think the most likely etiology of this pathogen in Wuhan was from a laboratory, you know—escaped.”

The situation deeply saddened Redfield since he aired his remarks on CNN, “I was threatened and ostracized because I proposed another hypothesis,” Redfield told Vanity Fair in the story published Thursday. “I expected it from politicians. I didn’t expect it from science.”

Redfield noted that some death threats came from people who thought he was racially sensitive, but other threats came from prominent scientists he preferred not to mention for safety’s sake.

During his remarks to CNN, Redfield stated that it is not uncommon for respiratory pathogens being worked on in a lab to infect a lab worker. So he did not even claim that the escape of the virus was intentional; in fact, he openly stated that it could even have been accidental.

But just mentioning this possibility caused threats to begin to emerge, he reported.

CCP officials claimed that the virus first appeared in December 2019 and appeared in a wet market in Wuhan, a few kilometers from the Wuhan Laboratory. However, the Chinese regime provided few details on how the virus was transmitted and could not determine which alleged animal transmitted the virus to humans.

At the same time, the CCP has been criticized by the international community, including human rights organizations, for its efforts to disguise the origin of the virus and silence doctors, whistleblowers, and others.

The World Health Organization (WHO), which has deep ties with the CCP, conducted a controversial investigation earlier this year in China to ascertain the origins of the virus. While it determined that the laboratory was not the source of the virus in principle, the investigation was riddled with irregularities that detracted from the investigation results.

During the past year, the Trump administration repeatedly claimed the possibility that the virus escaped from the Wuhan laboratory. Still, the accusations were ridiculed and branded as conspiracy theories by his Democratic opponents and the related hegemonic media.

But to everyone’s surprise, a few days ago, the official discourse took a 180-degree turn. President Biden reported that several officials within the U.S. intelligence community, the group of 17 agencies led by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, suspected that the virus came from the Wuhan lab and announced a new investigation to prove the theory. The mainstream media also changed its mind and now considers it a possibility with a high probability of certainty.
