A 16-year-old Indiana boy confessed in court on Wednesday, Oct. 29, to killing his pregnant girlfriend and unborn child nearly a year after her murdered body was found in a dumpster.

According to WSBT, during a court hearing in St. Joseph County, Aaron Trejo unexpectedly pleaded guilty to murder and feticide. Trejo told the court that during a brief conversation, Breana Rouhselang, 17, was fatally stabbed outside her home at the beginning of December.

Trejo said he knew he killed his girlfriend during the hearing on Wednesday and later determined that their child had also died.

At Mishawaka High School, Trejo was a football player and Rouhselang was the student manager of his football team and a former cheerleader. It is reported that Rouhselang was six months pregnant when Trejo killed her.

Hours, after she was reported missing by her parents, the teen’s body was found in a dumpster about a block away from home. Authorities said Trejo put the body of his girlfriend in a plastic bag before throwing her phone and the murder weapon in a river.

“I took action…I took her life,” he told authorities.

Trejo told investigators that he killed Rouhselang because she declined to get an abortion, according to charging documents that were filed soon after the slayings.

As part of a plea deal, Trejo gave up his right to appeal his conviction and sentence. In this case, the agreement also prevents prosecutors from filing additional criminal charges. A sentencing hearing is planned for January.
