A tractor-trailer transporting mail crashed into another truck Monday morning, Oct. 28, leaving only one of Interstate 75’s southbound lanes open in Hillsborough County as crews worked to clear papers and cardboard from the busy highway. Officials said local mail delivery should not be impacted.

Florida Highway Patrol said Michael Richardson, 58, of Charlotte, North Carolina, swerved out of his lane and crashed into the rear of the other truck driven by Emmanuel Bellamy, 25, of Opa Locka, Florida.

Richardson suffered serious injuries but Emmanuel Bellamy, the other driver, was not hurt.

The resulting collision left a mess along the interstate. Mail strewn for hundreds of feed along the road; firefighters and other workers were sweeping and even blowing the lanes clear while other crews tended to the damaged tractor-trailers.

Workers with the U.S. Postal Service spent the morning collecting mail off the highway.

The crash resulted in lane closures and massive traffic delays. Charges are still pending.
