Florida deputies said an 11-year-old girl stabbed a 44-year-old man with scissors to stop him from attacking her mother, on Saturday, Aug. 17.

Panagiotis Karamanlis pulled the mom’s hair, holding her to the ground and punching her in the face multiple times after an argument began over text messages.

The attack happened in front of the woman’s two children, ages 10 and 11.

According to an arrest report, the mother said to Karamanlis, “Don’t do this in front of the kids.”

Fearing that her mother was going to be murdered, the 11-year-old attempted to protect her by stabbing Karamanlis twice in the back with scissors.

The child was reportedly shaking and said in an emotional tone of voice, “Mommy, I stabbed him because I thought he was going to kill you!”

The 11-year-old and the 10-year-old, who witnessed the incident, suffered psychological harm as a result of the incident and were hospitalized for anxiety shortly after.

Deputies said the suspect admitted to holding the woman down, and pulling her hair but denied punching her in the face, despite the presence of visible bruising.

Karamanlis was arrested at the scene.

He is facing charges of domestic battery and child abuse.
