A Florida man was sentenced on Thursday, Jan. 9, to 90 days in jail and one year of supervised probation for spitting on a 67-year-old Trump supporter wearing MAGA hat in October.
Judge David Morgan accepted a no-contest plea last week for the assault committed by 43-year-old Matthias Ajple at Hurricane Grill & Wings in Vero Beach and determined him guilty of battery on Robert Youngblood, according to Treasure Coast News.
Camera footage showed Ajple approaching Youngblood at the bar on Oct. 26 and placed a paper towel on the hat Youngblood was wearing to cover up the “Make America Great Again” lettering on the hat. He slapped the bill of the hat before telling him, “You should go back to Russia, you [expletive] communist.”
Moments later, Ajple spat on Youngblood and left the bar, according to an Indian River County Sheriff’s Office arrest affidavit.
Youngblood took down Ajple’s license plate and police were quickly able to locate the 43-year-old spitter at his home address.
When police arrested him, Ajple told them, “I was just trying to protect you guys because I support law enforcement. Trump supporters are communist and racist.”
“I don’t even care that I’m going to jail; this is actually exciting,” he said. “Plus, I have more time on this earth than he does anyway; he probably feels so good about himself.”
Ajple must also pay a $155 in restitution to Youngblood, pay for all necessary court costs and avoid contact with him, according to the sentencing document.
However, Ajple may need to pay more cash for his victim, as Youngblood has filed a civil lawsuit against him seeking damages in excess of $15,000, The Smoking Gun reported.
