After saving two ladies from a creepy guest by giving them a note hidden as a receipt, a Florida bartender has been dubbed a ‘hero’ and has gone viral online.
Allie (@trinityallie) posted an image on Twitter of the bartender who rescued her during an awkward interaction with a guy. “This man was harassing me and my friend and the bartender passed this note to me acting like it was my receipt!”. Allie wrote. “Legit the type of bartender everyone needs.”
“If this guy is bothering you, put your pony tail on your other shoulder, and I will have him removed. He’s giving ME the creeps,” read the note attached to a little clipboard held out by the barman.
According to The New York Post, the bartender in question was Max Gutierrez, who worked at No Vacancy in St. Petersburg.
“It’s something you just pick up from mentor bartenders. Eventually you become pretty good at reading people, body language etc.” Gutierrez wrote about the incident on Reddit.
“This guy was giving off very weird vibes for quite a while, kept an eye on him, try to give him a chance, try to let the girls tell him no and leave it at that, but he didn’t take no for an answer and kept pestering them so eventually I kind of yelled at him and made him leave lol,” he recalled.
He admitted that he disliked yelling at customers or embarrassing individuals but that it was one of the most effective ways to deal with creeps. “I just don’t need my guests feeling uncomfortable,” he added.
Gutierrez wrote four days after the tweet made headlines that the sleazy patron returned to the pub for a beverage, but the bartender declined to serve him.
What transpired when the bartender addressed the sleazy patron was supported in a tweet from @trinityallie. She wrote: “He ended up having to literally yell at the guy he said ‘You need to get tf away from these girls who clearly are not interested’ and the dude said ‘That was a little aggressive’ and he said ‘Well ur aggressively hitting on them and you need to leave.'”
Allie clarified that she took the photo of the bartender’s pose after the creepy guy left to express her “appreciation.” The popular tweet received over 200,000 likes, with many people applauding the smooth mixologist in the comments section. The bartender’s fast thinking was hailed by many users. “Not all heroes wear capes,” one joked. “Some wear Hawaiian shirts.”
“This guy is amazing. He is the example of caring for strangers because very simply it’s the right thing to do! Restores my faith in humans! Good for you for making a big deal out of his wonderful actions,” wrote another person.
